The Hands-On Team possesses a philosophical belief in the importance and necessity of infection control principles and evidence-based practices that are of a multidisciplinary nature.

The Consultants have the knowledge and motivation necessary for their safe and effective implementation in the workplace, resulting in favourable outcomes for the customer.

Megan Reilly, Director of Hands-On Infection Control

MeganReilly_pic.jpgMegan is a registered general nurse with a Certificate in Infection Control obtained from Fremantle Hospital (1988).  She obtained her Bachelor of Nursing at Edith Cowan University in 1999, Certificate IV in Assessment & Workplace Training in 2001 and Masters in Health Science (Infection Control) with Honors at Griffith University in 2002. Megan is a Credentialled Infection Control Professional (CICP)

Megan has twenty years experience working in the area of infection prevention and control, and HIV/AIDS in the community, residential, office-based, acute and day surgery health care setting.  Over the years, she has attended and presented posters and papers at state, national and international conferences, published in Australian Infection Control peer-review journal, established a respite house for people living with HIV disease, guest lectured to undergraduate nurses at Edith Cowan University and currently co-coordinates a Graduate Certificate in Infection Control course with the Centre for Nursing Education at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital. 

In 1998 Megan commenced Hands-On Infection Control which provides a variety of infection control and related services to over 100 acute, community, residential, volunteer, office-based, day surgery, rehabilitation, child care, personal service, aviation and training organisations in both metropolitan and rural Western Australia, Queensland, Victoria, the ACT and New South Wales.  

She continues to participate in educational and professional development opportunities, which reflect the need to know of, understand and professionally practice evidence-based infection prevention and control.  Megan’s professional memberships include the Infection Control Association of Western Australia (ICAWA), Australian Infection Control Association (AICA), Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology Inc (APIC), and the Royal College of Nursing Australia.  Megan recently held executive positions on both ICAWA and AICA, was the Chair of the AICA Infection Control Standards 2006 Review Working Party and is currently a member of the Marie Stopes International (Australia) Medical Advisory Committee.

Alison Thrum, Infection Prevention and Control Consultant

- RN BN Graduate Certificate Infection Control Post Graduate Diploma Midwifery MRCNA

AlisonThrum_pic.jpgAlison completed her registered nurse training in the United Kingdom in November 1984 before emigrating to Australia in 1986. Alison has a background both in acute care nursing and nursing in the community and residential care settings. Following completion of the Infection Control Course for Registered Nurses at Fremantle Hospital, Alison began her career in infection control at Silver Chain, during which time she also completed the Stepping Out Competency Based Infection Control Course.

In 2000 Alison worked at Joondalup Health Campus and Glengarry Hospital as the Infection Control Manager and also completed a Post Graduate Certificate in Infection Control through Griffith University.  In addition, she obtained her Immunisation Certificate.  Alison is a member of the Infection Control Association of Western Australia and has held Executive positions over the years. 

Alison joined Megan at Hands-On Infection Control in April 2003, and has worked with her since that time, with a break in 2005 to complete a long held goal of undertaking a post graduate diploma in midwifery through Edith Cowan University while working at King Edward Memorial Hospital. Alison now combines her passions of working part time as a midwife and continuing work with Megan at Hands-On Infection Control.

Yvonne Fletcher, Infection Control Nurse

- RN BN Midwifery Certificate Graduate Certificate in Infection Control 

Yvonne.jpgYvonne completed her registered nurse training at the WA Institute of Technology in 1984.  After completing her Midwifery certificate at KEMH in 1988 she moved into day surgery where she has remained for the last 21 years combining a clinical and management role including staff development, OH&S, quality, accreditation (ACHS and ISO 9001) and infection control. In 2007 Yvonne completed the Graduate Certificate in Infection Control.  She is currently a member of the Infection Control Association of Western Australia, Australian Ophthalmic Nurses Assoc (WA), and the Australian Institute of Management.

Yvonne joined the Hands-On team in May 2009 and brings with her a wealth of experience in the day surgery setting with particular knowledge and skills in the reprocessing of reusable instruments and equipment, and maintenance of the associated environment.

Sylvia Gandossi, Infection Prevention and Control Consultant

- RN, BN, Graduate Certificate Infection Control, Certified Infection Control Professional, Certificate IV Training & Assessment

JoanneMayer_pic.jpgSylvia is a Registered Nurse and holds a Bachelor of Nursing and Graduate Certificate in Infection Control.  With more than 30 years in the health care industry, she has served in both clinical and management positions in nursing and infection control.

Since 1994 Sylvia has worked as an Infection Control Consultant in the private sector. During this time she has been involved in establishing and developing Infection Prevention and Control Consultancy and Education Programs.

Sylvia is the current Infection Control Association of WA representative to the Australian Infection Control Association (AICA).  Her main areas of interest are the infection prevention and control aspects of risk management, aged, office-based and community care.

Sylvia is a highly regarded guest speaker at Hands-On Infection control education and training activities.
